| CONDITIONS | Assistance of English speaking guide 15-seat minibus Lunch & Admission included |
The area around the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park used to be a branch of Hullyeongdogam, or the ‘Special Directorate for Military Training’. It was here that about 20 government buildings were discovered, along with a tile-covered footpath and a pond that was part of a garden. Numerous relics were also found in the area, many of which can be viewed in the nearby museum. By itself, however, the restored areas need a bit of imagination. The Seoul fortress walls, or “Seonggwak“ in Korean, were built according to 9th century Oriental geomancy, which stated that a kingdom’s capital should be protected by mountains on its north, south, east, and west. You will embark on a kilometer-long hike northward toward Naksan Park from the hustle and bustle of the Dongdaemun area. You will feel yourself being lifted above the frenzy of the city. To your left, clearly marking the trail, were stone walls with battlements standing over ten meters tall.
